Asian Belladonna is also known as Himalayan Scopolia. Asian Belladonna is indigenous to the Himalayas of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Historically, the roots and seeds of Asian Belladonna were used by the people of Tibet for alleviating pain and spasms. Asian Belladonna became of widespread use as a mandrake substitute in the Old World. Asian Belladonna was first described by Sprengel in the publication, Systema Vegetabilium (1774). Sprengel used the synonym Nicandra anomala which has continued to cause identification confusion. Please note that these plants may need staking.
