Patchouli is native to North India and Southern Asia but can be found growing in many tropical countries today. Patchouli was historically used as a perfume and as an ingredient for spiritual rites. Today, Patchouli is most used in essential oil form that is cold pressed from the stems and leaves of the Patchouli plant. Incense, perfumes, and teas / tinctures are many of the fresh Patchouli plant’s current herbal uses. Patchouli is a bushy perennial that produces racemes of tiny white to powder pink flowers in late summer. Patchouli is an excellent selection for the historic garden or herb garden.
