Flowers of the Night – 7 Varieties of Seeds In Individual Packets – See Image
“What hath night to do with sleep?” ― John Milton, Paradise Lost
In this exquisite collection, you will find 7 unique varieties of night-blooming flowers for your moon gardening delight. Each species is individually packaged with growing instructions. Included in the collection:
Night Phlox ‘Midnight Candy’ (Zaluzianskya Capensis)
This African native is a real show…I mean nose stopper. This annual which is not an actual phlox, has been given the African name of ‘drumsticks’ due to the tightly closed rather inconspicuous flower buds atop of thin feathery foliage that one sees during the day. But… what it lacks in a daytime performance is more than made up for as nighttime approaches. The tiny 5 lobed flowers open at dusk and permeate the air with a sweet fragrance. Ideal for a pot or two on the porch and even better grown in a mass planting. These are a must-have for the moon garden!
Plant Class: Annual Plant Ht: 24″ Plant Habit: Dwarf Upright Seed Count: 25+
White Evening Primrose ‘Innocence’ (Oenothera pallida)
Evening primrose ‘Innocence’ boasts blooms as bright and white as the moon herself which age to a creamy apple blossom pink. A spectacular color staged sight to behold in full bloom and a perfect choice for evening or moon garden applications. This fragrant night bloomer is said to be a nectar source for many different species of night butterflies AKA moths. As a plant selection that is drought tolerant, deer resistant, and low maintenance, you will have time to sit back and relax and enjoy the sweet evening fragrance and sunset.
Plant Class: Perennial Plant Height: 12″-36″ Plant Habit: Upright Full Seed Count: 25+
Orange Evening Primrose ‘Sunset Boulevard’ (Oenothera versicolor)
Evening primrose ‘Sunset Boulevard’ also known as Mexican evening primrose, is a night bloomer that really performs. Flowers of cheery apricot to tangerine age to deep crimson colors reminiscent of the warm summer setting sun. This cultivar prefers lean soil and will bloom the first year from seed. An excellent choice for the moon garden or low-maintenance garden.
Plant Class: Perennial Plant Height: 9″-16″ Plant Habit: Upright Full Seed Count: 25+
Pink Evening Primrose ‘Glowing Magenta’ (Oenothera kunthiana)
Evening primrose ‘Glowing Magenta’ boasts blooms of a deep etheric fuchsia which readily awaken at dusk. A rare and beautiful addition to the moon garden, this variety really makes a unique addition to the landscape and she is not picky about her growing location. She is a low-growing perennial that flowers the first year from seed.
Plant Class: Perennial Plant Height: 9″-14″ Plant Habit: Upright Seed Count: 25+
White Devil’s Trumpet (Datura Inoxia)
Showy 4″-6″ blooms of pristine white abound from spring to fall. This warm loving night-blooming Southwest native has been collected and cultivated for millennia for its unique blooms and for medical, ceremonial, and prophetic applications by the Aztec, Inca, and numerous other indigenous peoples of the Americas. Known as toloatzin by the Aztecs, this cultivar was listed in one of the oldest medical codex of the Americas, The Badianus Manuscript published in 1552. PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL PARTS OF THIS PLANT ARE TOXIC!
Plant Class: Perennial Plant Height: 12″-36″ Plant Habit: Upright Seed Count: 10
Night Stock ‘ Starlight Scentsation’ (Matthiola longipetala sub. bicornis)
Night-scented stock is an easy to grow annual that is a perfect selection for the night garden enthusiast and just as nice for those who tend to hang around outdoors during the warm summer nights. This little flower blooms when all others have faded. She boasts small and somewhat inconspicuous flowers in shades of lilac-pink and white that release a heady sweet perfume scent throughout the evening hours.
Plant Class: Annual Plant Height: 12″-16″ Plant Habit: Upright Seed Count: 25+
Flowering Tobacco ‘Indian Ghost Pipes’ (Nicotiana sylvestris)
Flowering Tobacco ‘Indian Ghost Pipes’ is an excellent choice for the evening or moon garden as well as the daytime flower bed, border or wild landscape. These pristine yet ghostly white tubular blooms seemingly play a subtle song that beckons moths and other night dwellers strait to them, albeit the heady perfume scent is most likely the attraction. This easy to grow and overall low maintenance annual is sure to please. The evening scent from this cultivar can best be appreciated if planted nearby a porch or other seating area.
